Chapter 1

This chapter was all about web browsers. I’ve used all of the major browsers including Edge to download Firefox (home use) and Chrome (school.) I have an iPhone, so Safari is the browser of choice over on the mobile side.

Navigating a web browser is some basic stuff, but I was completely unaware that you could do things like calculations using the Omnibox in Chrome. I don’t think I’d ever use it, but if I ever find myself without my phone calculator handy it’s nice to know I have the option.

The only add-on I use on Firefox is ublock origin. Occasionally I’ll toy with a theme to change the look, but I never stick with them. Plain old Firefox is good looking enough for me. Maybe I’ll take another look at the add-ons after I submit this, it’s not something that I’ve thought about in a couple of years.

Looking through my bookmarks it seems like I haven’t made one since 2020. Using the auto complete in the address bar has always been my go-to way of navigating frequently visited websites. I do use bookmarks on my phone however since it’s more convenient than bringing up the keyboard and one finger typing.

I can’t say I’ve ever tried to save an entire webpage, but I have saved images off the web using the right click save as method shown. All within the fair use provision, of course. Also as recently as this week I’ve printed a form off a web page.

Looking at my cookies, it seems like I need to give that list a good cleaning. I don’t think I need cookies from a website I visited once 8 months ago. I try to accept only necessary cookies when visiting a new web page.

Finally, the only time I’ve ever used private browsing was with Cengage last semester. I was having issues with them and one of the suggestions was to use incognito mode in Chrome. In my personal life, I’ve got nothing to hide.
